The Personal English Company, based near Los Angeles in Sierra Madre, California, U.S.A., was founded in 1984 to provide advanced English language training and materials to foreign-born professionals working in American public and private sector organizations. A wide variety of English language video and audio taped materials are now available. The design and content of these materials is based on more than a decade of intensive research into the unique needs of professional men and women who speak English as a second language. Persons from many different professions have benefitted from PEC's language programs and tapes: engineers; data processing and information systems professionals; doctors, nurses, and medical technicians; bankers; administrators and managers of public and private companies; diplomats; foreign businessmen and businesswomen; secretaries and clerical professionals.

CHARLOTTE BLACKMON: WOMAN WITH A MISSION

Founder and president, Charlotte Blackmon, English Language Specialist, is a professional trainer and consultant to numerous local, regional, national and international companies and government agencies. With a background in business education, teaching English as a second language, and intercultural studies, she founded The Personal English Company in 1984 after noting the lack of English language training programs and materials for foreign-born professionals who hoped to advance in their careers. She observed that technically competent professionals became stuck at a level below their true potential -- and were unable to achieve promotions into management -- because of English language deficits in pronunciation, vocabulary and writing. During 12 years of dedicated study and observation, she has produced and published English language audio and video tapes designed to ensure professionals career advancement through improved pronounciation of Standard American English and extensive vocabulary development in common and technical vocabularies.
